Stay fresh!
Aug 09, 2021I've said it before, and I will say it again, you need to keep a language FRESH!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because if you don't use it, you'll lose it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The challenge is to keep your language skills up-to-date and smooth. I talk a lot about 'self-talk', but there's more to it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Besides talking, you should practise listening, reading, and writing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- watch movies⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- read books⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- listen to music (and sing along)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- get a study buddy (and exchange text messages)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- book a refresher course {hint, hint}⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you are having a hard time doing this?
Here's a helping hand! Next time you are thinking, "hmmm are people going to even care about this? It's enough to be a great engineer", then picture this: a super important international project—Spanish architect, Romanian calculator, German construction company, and US client. And you are SMASHING it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 So remember, don't crawl back into your 'engineers-don't-need-Business-English-skills'-bubble. You do! It will build you strong business relations in the long run!
